Day 1 Palermo

On arrival in Sicily you're met and transferred to your hotel in the heart of Palermo to settle in. In the evening, enjoy a guided panoramic tour of the city by convertible for an atmospheric introduction to the area and some far-reaching views.

Day 2 Palermo

Palermo

Today enjoy a walking food tour of Palermo with an expert local guide. Explore the historic market areas of the city, celebrated for their street food, sampling a range of delicacies as you go. In the afternoon, you can visit the Cattedrale di Monreale, known for its Norman architecture and elaborate mosaics.

Day 3 Palermo

Palermo

Departing with a private driver today, you venture west from Palermo up into the hills to visit the historical town of Castelbuono and its 14th-century castle with your guide. After your tour, you'll visit the Abbazia Santa Anastasia, a medieval abbey and wine producer for a tasting lunch based around traditional Sicilian dishes. Before returning to Palermo you'll have some free time to explore the seaside town of Cefalù, heralded for its Norman cathedral.

Day 4 Palermo

Today is a busy day. You begin with a visit to the ancient ruined temple at Segesta. You'll be able to explore the site with your expert local guide before heading down towards the coastline near Trapani, famous for its landscape of salt pans and historic windmills, in time for lunch. After lunch, take a cable car with your guide up to the medieval town of Erice, perched precariously on a rocky summit overlooking the coast below. After exploring the historic winding streets with your guide, you can visit the small pastry shop belonging to Maria Grammatico who was featured in the poignant Sicilian memoir, Bitter Almonds. Return back to Palermo at the end of the day.

Day 5 Agrigento

Departing from Palermo, you spend the day exploring Sicily's ancient past as you take a trip into the interior to visit the mosaics at the Villa Romana Casale. A sprawling complex that's believed to have belonged to a powerful figure within the Roman Empire, it contains some of the largest sections of intact Roman mosaics anywhere in the world. After your tour of the villa, you'll enjoy a traditional Sicilian lunch at a nearby restaurant before continuing south to Agrigento, home of the iconic Valley of the Temples.

Day 6 Agrigento

Enjoy a fully guided tour of the Valley of the Temples, learning about the region's ancient architecture and intriguing past. Starting from the top of the complex, you work your way down through the valley, stopping at each of the different temples in turn and learning about their histories. In the evening, you'll take a panoramic drive around the temple complex to see the structures lit up in all their glory, and enjoy a short walking tour around the town before dinner.

Day 7 Syracuse

Agrigento , Syracuse

This morning you head to Sicily's southeast. Flattened by an earthquake in 1693, the towns in the area were all completely rebuilt in striking Baroque style. With your guide, you'll explore the towns of Modica and Ragusa, learning about their history before continuing on to Syracuse, once a powerful city within the Greek Empire. Your hotel is located in the heart of Ortigia Island, the oldest part of the city connected by bridge to the mainland.

Enjoy a tour of Syracuse today with your guide. As well as visiting the huge archaeological park and ancient quarries just outside of the town, your tour will encompass all the main sites of Ortigia, from the historic Duomo, built over the remains of an ancient temple, to the bustling fish market.

Day 9 Taormina

Syracuse , Taormina

Departing from Syracuse today, head along the coast towards Mount Etna. After ascending the lower slopes you'll stop to enjoy a tour and tasting at a local winery. You then continue around Etna's fertile slopes to enjoy a further tasting of wine and local produce while drinking in some beautiful views. At the end of the day, you'll head on to Taormina, the final stop on your tour of Sicily.

Enjoy a tour of Taormina, taking in the striking views across to Mount Etna and down the steeply plunging hillside to the waters below. The tour will take in the town's most historic sites, including the Teatro Greco, a well-preserved ancient arena still used for performances today and perched on a hillside.

Day 11 Taormina

Today you depart from your hotel on an adventure up to the summit of Mount Etna, Europe's most active volcano. Journeying with your guide, it's an early start to reach the main cable car that takes you up towards the top of the mountain. On exiting the cable car you'll travel in an off-road minibus across the moon-like landscape to reach one of the upper craters for a guided walk, learning more about the mountain. Descending from the summit, you'll stop for a well-earned wine tasting lunch to sample some of the best produce grown in the fertile volcanic soils.

Day 12 Taormina

Taormina

Today you have some free time to relax and explore more of Taormina at your leisure - perhaps heading down to the beach at Isola Bella or relaxing by your hotel pool. In the afternoon, there's time for one final tour, heading up into the countryside behind Taormina to visit some of the key filming locations of The Godfather. At the end of the tour, stop at the infamous Bar Vitelli, restored to look as it did in the film for an exclusive wine tasting experience before heading back to Taormina.

Enjoy the morning relaxing in Taormina before being transferred to the airport in Catania for your return flight.
