What our specialists say...

This itinerary explores two very contrasting parks and finishes with time on a sleepy island. Starting in Andasibe National Park you have the chance to experience a true rain forest. Walking along paths you step over the buttress roots of huge strangler figs, quinine and pallisander trees. Lemurs include the crowned and Sandford's brown lemur and your guide will find chameleons ranging from the colourful panther chameleon to the tiny leaf-mimic chameleon which is only 2cm long. From Amber Mountain you drive west to the dry Ankarana Special Reserve, famous not only for its lemurs but the limestone tsingy and eerie bat caves. Continuing west again you pass through large cocoa and ylang ylang plantations. At the tiny fishing port of Ankify you'll board a boat to take you to the idyllic Nosy Komba Island. Swap your hiking boots for flip flops and swim, snorkel and relax in idyllic surroundings.
