Views on the 100 Waterfalls Trek excursion

100 waterfalls trek from Nong Khiaw

Start your adventure today with a peaceful boat ride along the Nam Ou River where you will have the opportunity to stop and explore some of the small Laotian villages on the river banks before heading to the newly discovered waterfalls.

Walking through small streams and rice paddies you arrive at the bottom of the 100 waterfalls which were only first explored by non-locals in late 2008. The next few hours you will encounter only water and jungle and hear the sound of the waterfall cascades as you physically work your way up through the various levels which stretch upwards for around 1.2 miles (2 km). The terrain is varied and will range from a gentle walk along the river bed, to using fixed bamboo ladders in a couple of very steep places. The pools around you are very inviting for a refreshing splash so make sure you bring your swimwear.

Your guide will lead you through the cascades before preparing a local style lunch on the edge of the falls in the middle of this amazing landscape. A small villagers' trail on the top of the 100 waterfalls will lead you back down into the valley offering stunning views over the landscape of the Nam Ou valley. Hiking back to the village you will have more time to see the daily life here in the Nam Ou riverside villages before heading back by boat to Nong Khiaw.

Please note: this is an adventurous excursion, involving a full day of walking uphill, so you will need to have a good level of fitness. As some of the walking will be through water do be prepared to get very wet and wear appropriate clothing. The route is slippery in several places so good footwear is essential.
