Damaraland Camp

Damaraland Camp is a venture which integrates communities, the environment and wildlife on a sustainable basis and is rated as one of the most successful ecotourism ventures in Namibia.

The 80,000 hectare conservancy is located on the north bank of the Huab River Valley, 90 kilometres inland from Namibia's Skeleton Coast. The camp presents endless vistas across stark plains, ancient valleys and soaring peaks. The Brandberg Mountain provides a focal point, almost 100 kilometres to the south.

The Huab River bisects the concession and flows only once or twice during the short rainy season. Despite this, it attracts populations of desert-adapted elephant, black rhino, kudu and springbok (about 85% of the guests that stay at Damaraland Camp for two or more nights see desert elephant). Lion and cheetah move in and out of the area occasionally and the birdlife is good. Activities at Damaraland Camp include nature drives along the Huab River Valley and walks. Star-gazing is superb because of the crystal clear night skies.

Accommodation in Damaraland Camp is in eleven spacious walk-in tents raised on wooden platforms and with conical thatched roofs. Each tent which has been recently refurbished features a king-sized bed and en suite facilities, and balconies where you can enjoy a stunning view of the valley. The main living area is very open-plan and combines the dining room, lounge and bar and a small swimming pool. An open campfire and outdoor dining boma are enjoyed during warm evenings.
