Honduras is a beautiful country, rich in lush forests, green undulating mountains and with a striking Caribbean coastline.

Highlights for the traveller include the Mayan ruins in the charming town of Copán surrounded by serene hills and farmland. Further east the scenery changes to sub-tropical mountainous rainforest with waterfalls, beautiful rivers and over 700 species of bird. The Bay of Islands, with their Caribbean-infused culture are arguably Honduras’ main attraction. White sand beaches, calm crystal clear waters, sheltering one of the finest coral reefs in the region, and a smattering of tiny fishing villages characterise this delightful archipelago. The diving and snorkelling here is superb and simply unmissable if you are a fan of the underwater world.

Honduras has been deeply affected in past years by the enormous loss of life and damage caused by the infamous hurricanes that sweep through the Caribbean, the last major one being Mitch in 1998. The nation dealt with this disaster with outstanding fortitude and resilience, bouncing back to recovery remarkably well. The country’s past only adds to its fascination and the major routes throughout are now very well-developed considering.
