Puerto Vallarta
Pacific Coast, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is one of the Pacific coast's major tourist attractions and yet it has managed to retain some of its small town Mexican charm.
About an hour by plane from Mexico City, the town is backed by the lush vegetarian of the slopes of the Sierra Madre mountain range which run down almost to the water front.
Exploring Puerto Vallarta
As the town grows its hotels and condos are beginning to creep up the mountainside and yet there is a pleasant lack of Cancun style high rises.
Wandering around the streets away from the beach front is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon and the town also makes an excellent base from which to take bike trips into the nearby jungle or to spot dolphins swimming in the local rivers.
