Buddha Park Excursion
Vientiane, Laos
After a short drive south of Vientiane’s city limits you reach the bizarre Buddha park on the banks of the Mekong River. A collection of Buddhist (and Hindu) sculptures, Xieng Khuan, as it is known locally, was actually built as recently as 1958 by a young yogi-priest who developed a large following in Laos and north-east Thailand.
The concrete sculptures are of all scales and to some resemble an adventure playground.
One large pumpkin shaped monument can be climbed via a spiral stairway for views across the surrounding gigantic sculptures.
