Things to see
The centre is simply known as 'Town' and is close to the historic docks where there are villages built on stilts over the sea. The administrative centre is in Waigani to the north, with an excellent National Museum, Art Gallery and Parliament House, built in the style of a traditional "Maprik Haus Tambaran".
The attractive Botanic Gardens provide a good introduction to the indigenous flora and fauna and are worth a visit.
