Cinnamon Wild

Yala National Park, Sri Lanka

Cinnamon Wild is a forest lodge resort that offers comfortable chalet accommodation within a lush jungle, with some of the chalets set right by the beach. You’ll be able to spot a variety of wildlife here, from exotic birds and playful lemurs to passing elephants and maybe even a leopard.

Relax on the beach, head out on safari in the nearby Yala National Park or indulge in a spa treatment, before tucking in to dinner among the trees and hitting the rooftop bar, where you can take in panoramic views of the forest and ocean while enjoying a sundowner.

OUR OPINION:

Located within Yala's buffer zone, this hotel offers modern facilities while allowing you to feel surrounded by nature. It's also close to the coast, and while it isn't suitable for swimming, you can sit back in the sunshine and enjoy the views.

Rooms

The majority of the accommodation here is in Jungle Chalets, which are rustic in style to blend in with their surroundings but offer comfortable furnishings and a good range of amenities, including air conditioning, cable TV, free Wi-Fi, safes, hair dryers, minibars and tea/coffee facilities. At 45 square meters they offer ample space, with an en suite bathroom and the option to add an extra bed.

A handful of Beach Chalets are also available, which have an elevated position on stilts and are accessed via wooden stairways. Set close to the beach and ocean, they offer great views from private terraces. While they offer slightly less space than the Jungle Chalets, they come with the same modern amenities.

Location

Cinnamon Wild is located just ten minutes from the entrance of Yala National Park and reached by a causeway over a saltwater lagoon. The property is set within a jungle stretching to the beach.

Food and drink

Tuskers is Cinnamon Wild’s main restaurant and is located above reception, offering views of the surrounding trees from its deck. Sri Lankan and continental cuisine is served at breakfast, lunch and dinner in a buffet style. A number of wild dining experiences are also offered, including bush dinners, picnics and private dining by the lake.

There are two bars on site, including Pugmarks, a cozy indoor bar close to reception showing international sports on TV, and Peacock Bar, located on the rooftop for the best views across the surrounding wilderness and ocean. Here you can sip cocktails as the sun sets while looking out for wildlife below.

Families

The Jungle Chalets are the best option for families as they are more spacious and have the option for an extra bed. In addition, the Beach Chalets have balcony balustrades that are of a design that could present a hazard to children.

Facilities and activities

Guests can make use of the large outdoor pool, and after a busy day of exploring the national park the spa is a great place to relax with a soothing treatment. The lodge also offers a range of activities and experiences, including guided walks, jeep safaris and night drives.

Accessibility

A number of accessible rooms are available here, which have special features such as wider doorways, low mirrors and handrails in the showers. Ramps are also found throughout the premises to ease access for wheelchairs.
