Situated approximately an hour from either Waterford or Cork, the Cliff House Hotel is a boutique property built into the cliffs of Ireland’s southern coast. This secluded seaside hotel boasts an extensive spa that offers a range of treatments inspired by the sea as well as an indoor, infinity swimming pool, which seems to merge into the Irish Sea.

Quality service is paramount at this property with friendly, attentive staff at both the Michelin-starred House Restaurant and the more relaxed Bar Restaurant. Both dining options offer sea views as do all of the stylish guest rooms.

The vibrant bedrooms contain splashes of blue or pink and offer a large bathroom outfitted with a rainforest shower and separate, freestanding bathtub. Other standard in-room amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV and a warm, traditional Donegal tweed blanket. Higher room categories include a balcony and all suites feature a spacious living area equipped with a gas fireplace.

This boutique hotel offers top-notch service and we love waking up to the sound of the ocean lapping against the rocks below the property.

Rooms

All guest rooms are decorated in a contemporary style with vibrant hues of blue, pink or green and offer a large bathroom outfitted with a rainforest shower and separate bathtub. Standard amenities across all room types include a large oversized bed adorned with a traditional Donegal tweed blanket, complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms offer sea views and categories above the Deluxe Sea View have a balcony outfitted with a small table and chairs. The suites also feature a spacious living area with a gas fireplace.

Location

This oceanside property is built into the cliffs located along Ireland’s southern coast. Coastal walks and long stretches of sandy beach are close by. While the tiny fishing village of Ardmore may seem remote, the port city of Waterford is just over an hour away to the east and Cork is an easy hour’s drive to the west.

Food and drink

The House Restaurant relies on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients for its modern menus, which are inspired by Irish classics. The superb cuisine at this fine dining, Michelin-starred restaurant is only rivaled by the ocean views available from the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling glass wall. Relaxed dining is offered in The Bar Restaurant, which also serves a traditional afternoon tea.

Facilities and activities

The centerpiece of the hotel’s luxury spa is its indoor, infinity swimming pool, which seems to merge into the Irish Sea. The spa also offers a range of sea-themed treatments as well as an outdoor Jacuzzi, natural rock pool, sauna and steam room. Staff can also arrange rock fishing, horse riding and other activities.
