Workers in a paddy field in Palakkad

Explore Palakkad

Palakkad is an excellent place to experience the village life of Kerala.

Travelling through the area as the local people do, by bicycle or on foot, you will stop to learn about rice planting, the skills of the potter or basket weaver, find out how to tap toddy — and perhaps even sample some of this local coconut brew!

Depending on the amount of time you have you may also have the opportunity to visit the local Siva temple and have the rare opportunity to watch the evening puja. If you want to venture out on your own, a morning trek to a local "Chaya Kada" tea shop in the nearby village is recommended where you can meet up with the friendly locals.

There are also many gentle walks in the nearby paddy fields and villages when, at sunset in particular, the setting is nothing short of serene and inspiring.

You can also drive into Palakkad itself to see a Jain temple and Brahmin quarter.
