Visit Uruguay and the vibrant capital of Montevideo before heading to the glamorous beach resort of Punta del Este. Learn about Uruguayan food, culture and travel information.
Carmelo lies opposite the Parana Delta where the Rio Uruguay becomes the Rio de la Plata. It is a pleasant little town with a tree lined avenue leading to the first swing bridge ever built in Uruguay.
Colonia del Sacramento
A charming and lively town that was originally founded by Portuguese settlers arriving from Brazil in 1680, Colonia’s old town is a declared UNESCO heritage site.
José Ignacio is a lovely little fishing town 40km east of Punta del Este, and is quiet and peaceful for most of the year. However, during the summer months (December to March) this little town comes alive. People come from far afield to throw parties, enjoy carnival and see concerts in the lighthouse.
Montevideo is a vibrant city of contrasts. It combines an international port and economic centre for the whole of Uruguay with a seaside resort consisting of sandy streets and pine forests.
Punta del Este
A couple of hours’ drive east of Montevideo lies Punta del Este, Uruguay’s (and possibly South America’s) most glamorous beach resort.
