Growing up abroad, I’ve always had a deep passion for travel. Exploring new cultures and meeting people from all walks of life is something I believe everyone should experience. It now excites me that I can support Audley clients plan their next big trip.
My first taste of solo travel came either side of university: first to India and Central Asia and then to South America — I instantly had the bug.
During my time in the military, I had the chance to explore East Africa, and after several deployments to Kenya, I quickly fell in love with that part of the world.
My first taste of Tanzania came in 2023, and the warmth and genuine kindness of the locals was something different to anything else I had witnessed. Combined with the breathtaking national parks on offer, Tanzania is sure to hold a special place in your heart.
Q&A with Charles
Where would you love to travel next?
I'd love to visit Mongolia and the Stan’s. This relatively unexplored region has a natural beauty to challenge even the best, and it’s a photographer's paradise. But the unknown aspect and the chance to explore somewhere with few preconceptions and an open mind excite me.
What’s your most vivid travel moment?
While on FAM with Audley in Tanzania, I had the opportunity to take a hot-air balloon safari over the Serengeti. I was blessed with a magical sunrise and got to see the iconic National Park from a whole new perspective. Seeing the wildlife from above allows you to appreciate this complex ecosystem in a way that’s difficult when on a drive. It was peaceful, beautiful, and quite simply breathtaking, and finished with a champagne breakfast in the bush.
What’s your best piece of travel advice?
When on a safari drive, try to embrace whatever the bush offers. It’s easy to chase the ‘Big Five’ or search for an animal that you haven’t seen yet. But there’s beauty in even the smallest of creatures, and observing the behavior and characteristics of whichever plants and animals decide to reveal themselves will undoubtedly leave you with treasured memories.
