Rooms

The Pousada’s rooms are all spacious, well finished and of a similar style and standard. They include air conditioning, fridges for storing bottles of water and comfortable beds equipped with mosquito nets. Connecting rooms and conversions to doubles, twins or triples are available upon request and subject to availability. Each room comes with a TV with mainly Portuguese channels, but the sights and sounds of the Pantanal should provide all the evening entertainment you'll need.

Location

The property is located deep in the Pantanal wetlands, around 3 hours 30 minutes from Cuiaba. The rural location means it's important to stock up on supplies such as sun cream, mosquito repellent and anything else you might need before you arrive.

Food and Drink

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in a buffet style in the centrally located dining room. All food is home-cooked, and most of the fish and meat is locally-sourced, so you can expect some delicious local delicacies such as piranha soup. Tea and coffee is available throughout the day, as is chilled mineral water for refilling your empty bottles.

Facilities and Activities

The main focus of your stay at Rio Mutum will be the excursions on the river or into the surrounding forest or farmland. The specific tours offered by the pousada’s team of guides changes throughout the year, as the waters rise and fall, but generally include boat, horseback or walking trips, as well as a wide variety of activities and opportunities to learn about the wildlife in the Pantanal.

Our opinion

Immersed within the northern Pantanal wetlands, the pousada's wild location, excellent guides and comfortable accommodation combine to make this one of our favorite places from which to explore one of the continent’s most vibrant natural regions. While it has started to accept a few more group booking in recent years, the quality of excursions and guiding still makes for a fascinating stay.
