Visit Tiger Leaping Gorge, China

One of the natural wonders of the world, Tiger Leaping Gorge was formed by the Jinsha River forcing its way between the towering Yulong and Haba Mountains.

According to tradition a tiger once leapt across the gorge, which is only 30 meters wide at its narrowest point. The gorge is a truly stunning spectacle, as the rushing waters hasten to join the mighty flow of the Yangtze far downstream.

It can be visited as a great day trip from Lijiang, though those with the time and energy for a two-day hike can explore the region in much greater depth. Staying overnight in a local guesthouse in the center of the gorge itself is an unforgettable experience.
