71 Nyhavn Hotel

71 Nyhavn

Copenhagen, Denmark

With an exceptional waterfront location in the Amalienborg area, 71 Nyhavn Hotel is an excellent base for exploring the city, just a short walk from many of Copenhagen’s major sights. Set in two brick buildings that were built in the early 1800s as merchant warehouses, the hotel retains much of its historic charm, with well-preserved original features like dark Pomeranian pine beams and brick façades that are almost entirely unchanged over two centuries.

The 130 rooms’ decor balances the buildings’ historic aspects with a casually elegant style that features white walls, wood trim, leather headboards and modern lines.

This is also the home of SEA by Kiin Kiin, a chic outpost of the Michelin-starred Kiin Kiin restaurant, nearby. In the mornings, you can sit down to a traditional Nordic breakfast and in the evenings, the restaurant becomes a popular spot for Southeast Asian cuisine.

OUR OPINION:

We love the historic charm and modern conveniences of this waterfront hotel, along with its excellent service and central location.

Rooms

Massive and gnarled pinewood beams, historic shutters and unusually angled walls and ceilings all hint at the hotel’s original incarnation as waterfront merchant warehouses. The interior decor, however, is thoroughly modern, with clean lines, bright-white walls and a masculine style that features blues, browns, bare wood and tufted leather.

There are 130 rooms and suites, split over the two buildings, and each is slightly different thanks to the buildings’ layout. They all have modern bathrooms and many boast views over the water. All rooms also have air conditioning and Wi-Fi.

Location

With its prime waterfront location on the Nyhavn canal, the hotel boasts an enviable position at the heart of the city. You’re mere steps from where boat tours depart, and a short stroll to sights like the Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen Opera House, Danish Royal Library and Round Tower.
