After graduating in 2012 with a First Class Honours in Ancient History, eager to explore the world, Hannah worked for a year onboard a cruise ship. She extensively traveled throughout Southeast Asia as well as parts of India, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. Returning to the UK, Hannah joined Audley to continue working within the travel industry and — for over a decade — she has helped clients discover Borneo, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Her latest adventure was moving to the Isle of Skye, where she works from home. Designing holidays in the daytime and sleeping on mountains overnight, she likes to bring a sense of adventure to every trip.
Siem Reap would always be at the top of my wish list for anyone wishing to see the most awe-inspiring temples in all Southeast Asia. The temples of Angkor let your imagination run wild. To escape the crowds, I enjoyed going on an e-bike tour with my guide, winding on trails between forgotten temples.
The Abai Jungle Lodge on the Kinabatangan River was a highlight wildlife experience on my last trip to Borneo. I managed to see the Big Five: Orangutans, hornbills, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, and pygmy elephants — among many others. One evening a staff member brought his guitar to the restaurant to serenade a honeymoon couple and we continued to exchange songs into the evening, learning how to sing Happy Birthday in Malay is a lasting memory.
I was lucky enough to see a herd of wild elephants in Kui Buri National Park. In total the park protects around 320 wild elephants, the largest concentration in Thailand. I stayed in a local home stay and spent time in Ruam Thai village, a farming community, where I tasted fresh pineapple jam made only several hours before.
