Bellavista Cloudforest Reserve

Bellavista is a rustic lodge situated on the fringe of Mindo Cloud Forest Reserve 86 km to the northwest of Quito. The lodge is built in a dramatic dome shape with stunning views down the hillsides into the valley below. There are feeders on the balconies which attract the delicate hummingbirds to feed on the nectar. The area is home to around 300 species of birds, including the Plate Billed Mountain Toucan.

The owner and other guides will take you out on the various trails to have the opportunity to see these birds and the rich supply of orchids and other plants. The lodge has ten rooms across three houses with private bathrooms and showers and is full board. There is also dormitory style accommodation. There are a couple of rooms away from the lodge in a little hut on their own for a bit more privacy and solitude.

Please note that this is undoubtedly a very unique place to visit for keen birders but it does offer only very simple accommodation and facilities. Often the walking tracks can become extremely slippery due to the amount of rain the area receives.
