Emily

Italy Specialist

My love for travel started at a very young age. I was adopted from China, and my curiosity to learn about different places and people grew with each new experience I had. That curiosity continued into college, where I earned my BA in Geography.

This passion truly came to life when I studied abroad in Florence, Italy, where I immersed myself in Italian culture and everyday life. Since then, I’ve returned multiple times and always try to make it a stop on any international trip I take. My love for fine wine, art, and food has only grown. Italy has become a country I now call my second home.

From this experience, I pursued a career in the wine industry, where Italy was always part of the conversation. I then became an Italy Specialist, allowing me to share my love for travel and Italy through thoughtfully crafted, immersive experiences that bring its beauty and charm to others.

Pasta making

What’s your most vivid travel moment?

On a whim, I decided to sign up for a cooking class with a local Italian woman, Valentina. Little did I know I’d be welcomed like a close relative into her kitchen in the outskirts of the city. Next thing I knew I was swept up in the charm and ambiance of the class that felt more like cooking with friends than strangers. With fresh tomatoes and flour in the air, hours passed by like minutes and by the end of the class I learned how to make four types of pasta shapes with corresponding sauces that blended perfectly. The class concluded with us eating together at a large table sharing house wine and crazy travel stories. To this day, this is one of my travel memories I remember in vivid color and taste.

Where would you love to travel next?

The wine country in France has been a new interest of mine — specifically the Champagne region, Alsace, and Loire Valley. Prior to my work as a country specialist, I worked in the wine industry in the Finger Lakes Region of New York and gained a new perspective and love for wine. I want to continue my education in one of the counties that does it best.

Your best piece of travel advice?

My best travel advice is not to shy away from popular tourist destinations. As an Italy specialist, I’ve seen firsthand how many iconic places are popular for good reason, whether it’s the rich history, stunning landscapes, or rave reviews. While crowds can be overwhelming, skipping these spots means missing out on truly unforgettable experiences. Do your research and find the optimal times to visit. With a little planning, you can avoid peak hours and enjoy these destinations at their best. Sometimes that means visiting early in the morning or during off-season months. But these moments often become the most picturesque and memorable parts of any trip.
