An elegant hybrid of Georgian arches and whitewashed pillars combined with locally handcrafted woodwork is the sophisticated Half Moon hotel. Having originally opened in 1954, the property boasts an open-air reception area bedecked with monochrome images of its previous A-list clientele.
Stepping through the sleek resort’s main buildings reveals a bar and restaurant that overlook the twinkling Caribbean Sea beyond. There’s also an equestrian centre where guests can ride horses along the beach, the zen-like Fern Tree Spa, an impressively sized gym and two miles of private beachfront, not to mention tennis courts, padel courts, and 18-hole golf course. There are four swimming pools of varying size and theme as well as a dedicated children’s village and family activities. The accommodation comprises of suites, cottages and villas and are decorated in a airy, minimalist Caribbean style, most of which overlook the ocean.
We think that Half Moon is an excellent option for those who want to relax in the comfort of an all-inclusive resort and take advantage of the plethora of facilities and activities.

Rooms
There are a number of room categories to choose from, including rooms, suites and villas spread across the three accommodation areas: Eclipse, Founders Cove and Rose Hall Villas. Stretched out along the two miles of beachfront, most of the accommodations overlook the ocean, and blend a Caribbean style of natural wood materials with a splash of tropical prints. The expansive marble bathrooms are equipped with toiletries from Fern Spa and have rainfall showers and whirlpool tubs in select rooms. Every room includes Wi-Fi, TV and air conditioning with the thoughtful addition of insect repellent and ceiling fans — a necessity in the Caribbean.
Location
Half Moon is part of the prestigious suburb of Rose Hall, an expansive district that houses the 400-acre property and other secluded hotels. It's set apart from Montego Bay and because of its large mileage grounds is not overly friendly for those wanting to explore on foot, as it requires a drive to reach the island’s inland attractions, such a Dunn’s River Falls.
Food and drink
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from win the Half Moon’s grounds, from the open-air Seagrape Terrace, where a buffet style breakfast with continental options is served, to the Italian Delmare. A complimentary shuttle service runs to Sugar Mill, set within a charmingly restored sugar mill and specialising in award-winning international cuisine, made with Jamaican ingredients. Private dining is a sumptuous option, while a more relaxed approach is found at the beach barbecue on Sunrise Beach on Fridays. With the variety of bars and cafes to choose from, you can sip your way through coffees, rums and cocktails that reflect the essence of the island.
Families
Families with children between 3 and 12 will appreciate the Anancy’s Children Village, while a nanny service is available for younger children. At the Seagrape Terrace a children’s menu is on offer, and the interconnecting rooms and extra beds make for a comfortable and spacious set up.
Facilities and activities
With 400 acres of manicured grounds and three beaches to play with, it's no surprise that the facilities and activities at Half Moon are extensive. Spanning from the relaxing and rejuvenating options of yoga, spa treatments, a spot of golf, or day by the multiple pools, there’s also a state-of-the-art, fully equipped fitness centre, boasting an Olympic-sized lap pool. There’s tennis courts and a spin studio, water sports and sailing, and the unique addition of the Equestrian Centre, where polo lessons and swimming with the horses make for an unforgettable outing.
Accessibility
There are a few suites at Half Moon that are suitable for guests with disabilities, adapted to include an open shower with a grab bar, shower chair and commode, and the installation of ramps where needed.
