Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret

Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret

Bergen, Norway

Set in an historic building within Bergen’s Old Town, the Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret enjoys a central location as well as views across the water and over Bryggen’s wooden rooftops. Elegant yet welcoming public areas provide enticing places where you can sit and relax after a day’s exploration, perhaps in front of a roaring fire, or with a drink from the bar.

There’s a good-sized gym as well as a sauna and steam bath, and the hotel offers a fika experience every afternoon (a Swedish tradition of taking time to catch up with friends over coffee and cake each day). Rooms continue the hotel’s Baroque Revival style. You’ll find an earth-tone palette, with warm browns and mellow golds, accented with pops of intense royal purple, all rendered in richly textured fabrics like subtly striped brocade and deep-pile velvet.

We love the historic architectural features throughout this hotel, as well as its central location.

The 113 rooms come in a range of categories, from snug to spacious, and many of the larger options have views over the water. Though its clean, contemporary design is shared with many other Scandinavian hotels, the decor here leans heavily toward dark, rich earth tones — coffee brown, burnished gold and royal purple. You’ll find tall windows that take advantage of the views. Standard rooms only have showers, while others have a shower or bathtub.

Hotel Havnekontoret boasts an exceptional location, on the outskirts of Bergen’s vibrant old town, Bryggen. You’re less than a ten-minute walk to the Fish Market and even closer to the waterfront pedestrian square. Additionally, it’s a short stroll to Fløibanen, the funicular railway that takes you to the top of Mount Fløyen. The cobbled streets immediately around the hotel are full of cafés, restaurants and shops.
