Anantara Dhigu Resort

The Maldives

This small, lively island is the ideal spot for an active Maldivian escape. Anantara Dhigu is set on a beautiful lagoon whose clear waters offer excellent snorkeling opportunities.

A good range of water-based activities are available, and with a large kids’ club in the middle of the resort, Anantara Dhigu is a great option for families.

The resort is part of the renowned Thai hotel brand, Anantara, and you can see the Thai influence in the great service and delicious cuisine. In fact, dining is one of the highlights at the resort, not only in terms of its quality, but also due to the wide range of dining available. Guests are free to dine not only at Anantara Dhigu but also at Anantara Veli, a sister property connected by a one-minute boat ride.

OUR OPINION:

Anantara Dhigu is a great choice for those looking for a good-value, family-friendly escape to the Maldives. There is a good range of facilities along with multiple dining options and a wide choice of villas to accommodate families.

Rooms

The 110 villas and suites are set on the beach or over water and there is a wide range of options to suit both families and couples. Guests have the option of sunrise or sunset views and each villa or suite has its own terrace as well as all the facilities you would expect, including TV, Wi-Fi, minibar and tea/coffee facilities. Some also have the advantage of a private pool while Two Bedroom Villas are ideal for families or two couples visiting together.

Location

The resort is located in the South Malé Atoll, just 35 minutes by speedboat from the international airport, with a soft, white-sand beach overlooking a lagoon with crystal-clear water. While you can see some buildings on local islands nearby, these are small islands and certainly don't spoil your views.

Just a minute’s boat ride away on a nearby island, the hotel’s sister property, Anantara Veli offers a host of additional facilities for Anantara Dhigu guests. However, please note that Veli does not accept children outside dinner times or at any time at the bar.

Food and drink

With four dining options at Dhigu and another four at its sister property, Anantara Veli, dining is a highlight here.

At Anantara Dhigu we highly recommend Sea.Fire.Salt. Sitting at the water’s edge it serves fresh seafood, a selection of prime meat, and of course, 14 different types of salt.

Fushi Café offers daily breakfast, themed buffet dinners and sunrise views over the lagoon for early risers. Terrazzo, is an Italian restaurant with lagoon views open for dinner. There is also a pool bar serving lunch and poolside snacks.

Our top recommendation at Veli is Baan Huraa, a Thai restaurant set over the lagoon serving excellent Thai cuisine for lunch and dinner.

Set on the oceanfront at Veli, 73 Degrees serves buffet breakfasts and themed buffet dinners in the evening while the Dhoni pool bar serves snacks, sandwiches and pizzas throughout the day.

Anantara Veli’s Japanese restaurant, Origami, serves modern Japanese cuisine in the evenings, including sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki.

Guests can also enjoy the resort’s ‘dining by design’ options, including dining on the beach or on a private island.

Children are allowed in the restaurants at both Anantara Dhigu and Anantara Veli; the only dining option where children are not allowed is the Dhoni pool bar at Anantara Veli.

Please note, Origami and 'dining by design' are not included in half-board or full-board and are charged separately. At Sea.Fire.Salt, Terrazzo and Baan Huraa, some items will incur a supplement.

Families

Anantara Dhigu is a good option for families. There is a great kids’ club with lots of activities, including tailor-made activities, made just for them. The club is open from 9am until 6pm for children 3-12 years old. Babysitting services are available for babies from three months old and need to be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

All the villas and suites accommodate up to two children and there are also two bedroom villa options available.

Local excursions

Anantara Dhigu arranges a variety of water-based activities, including dolphin-watching trips, sunset cruises and picnics on a private island. There is also a range of snorkeling trips, including night snorkeling or searching out manta rays (August to December). Although most activities are water-based, you can also visit a nearby local island.

Diving

The PADI dive center offers courses for beginners as well as more advanced divers and arranges dive trips from a single dive to a half-day or full-day of exploring the nearby reefs.

Spa Facilities

There are six over-water treatment rooms at the spa offering classic treatments along with two open-air, over-water salas for Thai massage. The spa also offers a steam room and sauna, as well as a hair salon, beauty room and an expansive over-water relaxation deck with Jacuzzi and plunge pool.
