Copper Whale Inn

Copper Whale Inn

Anchorage, The US

The Copper Whale Inn B&B is located in the heart of historic Anchorage, convenient to the city's restaurants, galleries, museums and attractions. Built in 1939 by Howard Romig, a local doctor, the main building is historic by Anchorage standards (the city was founded in 1915), and was the first architecturally designed home in the city. It is one of the few structures that survived the 1964 Anchorage earthquake and today the inn contrasts with nearby downtown high-rises. Lush gardens grace the exterior in the summer season while the spacious common area is warmed by an open fire.

The location offers views across Cook Inlet to the Alaska Range and convenient access to the coastal trail. Binoculars in the living room help you to spot bald eagles, beluga whales and other passing wildlife. Innkeeper Glen Hemingson loves to discuss the history of the inn as well as talk about the state's natural and cultural treasures and can offer suggestions for local activities and excursions.

OUR OPINION:

Character properties and character hosts are in short supply in Anchorage (and even Alaska as a whole). Copper Whale Inn is a real exception and we are confident that its charms will be appreciated by Audley guests.
