Hotel Kärntnerhof

Hotel Kärntnerhof

Vienna, Austria

On a quiet street near Stephansplatz, Hotel Kärntnerhof offers guests a comfortable, no-frills atmosphere. A 19th-century building, the hotel features the Art Nouveau style commonly seen throughout Vienna. Follow the tiled flooring to the red-carpet-covered stone staircase where you can stop to admire the wrought iron railing.

This boutique hotel is simple but has everything you need for a restful stay. There’s a daily breakfast buffet and a rooftop terrace with tables and lounge chairs so you can drink a cup of coffee and take in the view of the baroque Heiligenkreuzerhof towers.

There is no restaurant in the hotel, but its location within the First District means there are plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

OUR OPINION:

Though a simple boutique property tucked away on a quiet side street, we like Hotel Kärntnerhof for its good value and proximity to Saint Stephen’s Cathedral and Stephansplatz.

Rooms

Hotel Kärntnerhof offers 44 rooms, ranging from standard rooms to the larger suites such as the Madame Rosa suite, the Dom suite and the Christiane Hörbiger suite.

The rooms are simple, but furnished elegantly. Many have English wallpaper, big bright windows and are decorated with taupes, blues and greens. Each room has an en suite bathroom and Wi-Fi, but standard rooms don’t have air conditioning. There is air conditioning in the Dom and Madame Rosa suite, and the other rooms are equipped with fans during the summer months.

Location

Hotel Kärntnerhof is centrally located in the First District, close to the river and many restaurants. It’s about a three-minute walk to Stephansplatz for shopping, dining and entertainment, such as the Vienna State Opera. The hotel is tucked down a quiet, dead-end side street.

  • A complimentary breakfast buffet is served daily.
  • There’s no restaurant in the hotel or minibar in the rooms.
  • The hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants.
