Built in 1899 as a Gentlemen’s Club, the Bishop’s Gate Hotel still contains many original features of the building. The historic property has hosted numerous well-known guests in the past, including Yeats and Churchill. The hotel is situated in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter and contains a grand lobby with intricate crown molding and an impressive 200 year old grand staircase.

While the original features have been lovingly restored, the sleek design of the hotel is modern. This is reflected in the 31 elegantly designed bedrooms that have small, historic touches such as antique phones and vintage wired clocks to resemble the historic nature of the property. The rooms have all amenities for a comfortable stay including tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary water, TVs, air-conditioning, hair dryers, and irons. The hotel is within walking distance to the promenade, offering a great place to walk in addition to the small fitness room onsite. The hotel has two dining options; the more casual Wig Lounge and upscale Gown Restaurant, which was awarded an AA Rosette Award.

Rooms

The elegantly designed bedrooms can be accessed by either the 200-year-old front staircase or lift. Small historic touches that are prominent in the common areas such as crown molding, antique furniture, and gold framed paintings follow into the simple, sophisticated design of the bedrooms. The rooms provide all amenities for a comfortable stay including tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary water, TVs, air-conditioning, hair dryers, and irons.

Location

Located in the Cathedral Quarter within the city walls, Bishop’s Gate Hotel is located within the heart of the city. The hotel’s location is on the main road perpendicular to Diamond Square, which is the central hub of local shops, cafés, and restaurants. Leaving from the main door, the walled city, St Columb’s Cathedral, and Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall can be reached on foot within minutes.

Food and drink

While the hotel is within walking distance to a plethora of dining options in the city, the hotel has two quality dining options. The Wig and Gown Champagne Bar & Restaurant serves casual, classic dishes throughout the day in addition to an extensive drinks and cocktail menu. The AA Rosette award-winning more formal option, the Gown Restaurant, serves a buffet spread and cooked to order breakfast menu daily with a rotating seasonal dinner menu in the evenings.
