This evening walking tour of the city is a gastronomic journey of discovery that allows you to sample some of Malaysia’s most famous dishes with the help of a local food guide.
Kuala Lumpur is a melting pot of different cultures and the exceptional and varied street food on offer is a reflection of this. During the tour you will walk through some of the narrow lanes and pathways of city districts, stopping by a number of heritage sites such as the Jamek Mosque, Central Market, Sin Sze Si Ya Temple and Sri Maha Mariamman Temple. You will have the chance to sample many different dishes on route learning about the origins of each dish available and the different cooking techniques adopted by the street food hawkers.
Some of the recommended dishes available are:
1) Satay (Malay)- A dish of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sweet spicy peanut sauce
2) Nasi Lemak (Malay) - A fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and "pandan" leaf
3) Charcoal stir fried Hokkien Mee (Chinese) - A dish of yellow noodles braised in thick dark soy sauce with pork, squid and fish
4) Luo Han Kuo with Dragon Eye Drink & Deep Fried Potato Ball (Chinese) - Luo Han Kuo fruit is a well-known herbal remedy for treating coughs and sore throats.
5) Chee Cheong Fan (Chinese) - A simple dish of rice noodles with sweet sauce
6) Rojak (Indian)- A combination of fried dough fritters, beancurd, egg and vegetables mixed with a thick spicy peanut sauce
7) Cendol (Indian)- A traditional coconut-milk based desert
8) Roti Canai or Paper Dosai & Teh Tarik (Indian) - Roti Canai is a type of flat bread and Paper Dosai is a thin fermented crepe
9) Portuguese Grilled Fish (Malaysian - Available in the evenings only)- Though named Portuguese Grilled Fish, this dish does not come from Portugal but is a local style of grilled fish with spicy ‘sambal’ sauce and vegetables
10) Charcoal Clay Pot Chicken Rice - A traditional dish of rice cooked in a clay pot with diced chicken, Chinese sausages and fish.
