Santorini Mozambique overlooks the white sandy beach of Kingfisher Bay and is located just north of the town of Vilanculos. The property is inspired by Greek architecture and offers superb accommodation with glorious sea views over the Indian Ocean.
The main villa is your home away from home and offers guests the choice of two swimming pools, a snug lounge, snack kitchen and many private terraces and smaller annexes that are ideal for private dining by candlelight.
There are five individually named suites in the main villa and views of the Bazaruto Archipelago are visible from the rooms. All the rooms are light and airy and decorated in nautical tones with large, comfortable beds, modern bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, standalone bathtubs and private terraces with loungers where you can enjoy the sweeping sea views.
Families or friends traveling together can enjoy the use of either the Chapel or Villa de Praia, which are two- and three-bedroom properties just separate to the main villa and are equipped with their own hosts, chef, pools and indoor and outdoor dining areas.
The white sandy beach below is a short walk down wooden steps where you can laze on bean bags under your private thatched beach banda, or take out a kayak or paddleboard into the ocean.
The staff at Santorini can book any number of activities in the local area for you, including boat trips to the islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago, guided tours of Vilanculos town and markets, horse riding, diving and dhow cruises. The hotel also has a small spa on site.
OUR OPINION:
We like Santorini for its indulgent accommodation without the logistics of flying to the islands off the coast. The food and service here is superb and we love all the imaginative locations you will enjoy for your meals. Because of the many stairs, this is not a good option for those who have trouble climbing.

Rooms
There are five suites and two villas at Santorini Mozambique, all of which are decorated in neutral and nautical tones. The five suites are located in the main villa, which features an oceanfront patio, outdoor dining area and swimming pool. Each suite has its own private patio with loungers and an umbrella for guests who want to enjoy some privacy.
The Chapel is a two-bedroom suite just a short walk from the main villa that’s ideal for a small family or two couples. The villa consists of a common area where you can enjoy snacks and drinks.
Villa da Praia is an exclusive-use, three-bedroom beach villa that makes a lovely retreat for small groups or a larger family. Two of the bedrooms have their own private patio and the third room has a garden terrace and a separate entrance. You can enjoy views of the archipelago from the outdoor showers.
Location
Santorini Mozambique is situated north of the town of Vilanculos, a 30-minute drive from Vilanculos Airport. Direct flights between South Africa’s Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and Vilanculos Airport make this property a convenient place to relax on the beach at the end of your Big Five safari in the Kruger. Vilanculos is a small town which only spans 5 km (3 miles) and is a good base for exploring Mozambique’s Bazaruto Islands.
Food and drink
The chefs constantly update the innovative menu, which features vegetables and herbs sourced from the property’s herb garden. Hot breakfasts are cooked to order and the homemade muesli is always a treat. Lunches are casual and can be served in the courtyard or around the pool area. Dinners are either served indoors or around an open-air beach boma under the stars.
Families
The two- and three-bedroom villas make this property excellent for families. The property also has a few bicycles that have been adapted for riding on the sand that you can rent.
Facilities and activities
There are a wide range of activities which include horse riding, kitesurfing, snorkeling, dhow safaris, kayaking, fishing and biking. The property gives their guests an opportunity to either be active or just to enjoy the surroundings.
