The beach at Ngwe Saung is a beautiful and vast stretch of white sand lapped by the waters of the Bay of Bengal, making it a perfect location for some relaxation after a cultural tour of Myanmar.
Ngwe Saung town is a mile-long dusty road that lies parallel to the ocean and is flanked by half-a-dozen restaurants, small guesthouses and wooden shops selling all-manner of goods such as medicines, sun cream, Buddha statues and sun-hats to tourists and local villagers alike. The more exclusive resorts are both north and south of the main town. The stretch of beach has an air of rustic charm, it's very wide in places and is perfect to swim in with a gentle sloping bank out to the ocean.
As with most beaches in Myanmar the strip of sand is not exclusive to sun-worshipers though, local children walk along the beach in the morning, ladies carry tin pots of food to the market, and fisherman bring in the daily catch late afternoon as the sun goes down.
