Comprising six historical houses that were once part of a furniture factory and later used as a music and cultural venue, this hotel is designed to feel more characterful and homely in style than other properties in Hilton’s portfolio. Located in the heart of Reykjavik just a short walk from the bars, cafés, restaurants, and shops of Laugavegur Street, you’re met with a contemporary Scandinavian decor theme throughout.

The individually designed rooms and suites are stylish and spacious, with all featuring local artworks and soothing blue and gray hues to reflect Iceland’s ocean and volcanic rock respectively. Modern amenities include flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines, comfortable beds with memory foam mattresses, and en suite bathrooms with toiletries. There’s also accessible rooms that offer helpful extras such as audio and strobe alerts, vibrating alarms, and lowered furniture.

Elsewhere, you’ll find a restaurant for an imaginative menu of modern Icelandic cuisine, a bistro and bar for afternoon drinks, snacks, and cocktails, and a café for all-day sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. There’s also a basement gym, complimentary bike hire, and a team of helpful staff who can advise on the city’s best attractions.

OUR OPINION:

For those who want to stay in the heart of Reykjavík, this contemporary hotel comprised of six historic buildings has a homely feel and plenty of character. We love the graffiti paintings by local artists.

Rooms

There’s a sophisticated Scandinavian decor theme in the individually designed rooms and suites, all of which feature Icelandic artworks, soothing blue and gray hues, and desks with adjustable lamps. Modern amenities include a flat-screen TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, Nespresso machine, mini fridge, and safe. You’ll also find comfortable beds with memory foam mattresses, ironing facilities, and modern en suite bathrooms with toiletries. The Standard and Premium rooms are spacious and comfortable while the much larger suites feature a separate living area and are better suited to families. Many rooms look out over the harbor. 

Location

You’ll be staying in the heart of Reykjavík, close to the vibrant bars, cafés, restaurants, and shops of Laugavegur Street. The harbor area, Harpa concert hall and Hallgrímskirkja church are all within a five- to ten-minute walk from the hotel.

Food and drink

The stylish Geiri Smart offers an imaginative menu of modern Icelandic cuisine paired with cold climate wines for lunch and dinner. Buffet breakfasts are served daily, with the option of ordering grab-and-go bags if you’re leaving early. The Canopy Central Bistro & Bar opens for afternoon drinks, snacks, and cocktails while the Central Café serves all-day sandwiches, pastries, and coffee.

Families

Canopy by Hilton caters to families and provides cribs, high chairs, and a children’s menu. A babysitting service is available on request.

Facilities and activities

The hotel offers complimentary bike rental for city exploration, a 24-hour gym, a jogging and walking track, and a library filled with Icelandic literature. If you’re visiting during the winter when the northern lights are visible, a wake-up call can be arranged. You may also borrow a record player and make use of the extensive on-site LP library.

The hotel offers fully accessible rooms with helpful extras including audio and strobe alerts, vibrating alarms, lowered furniture, and specially designed bathrooms with roll-in showers.
