Golden Island Cottages comprises two resorts — Nampan and Thale U. Golden Island Cottages Thale U is located at a midway point, on the eastern side of the lake and benefits from a relatively quiet location, close to shore.

The 25 individual stilted cottages are connected by wooden walkways and whilst the resort is simple, the service is good and the atmosphere relaxed. There is a small restaurant with traditional Shan dance and music performances on some evenings, and a bar area.

Golden Island Cottages is a co-operative project, run and staffed by the local Pa-O people, and revenue is directed toward community development.
