On a stately green in the Willemspark district of The Hague stands the elegant Carlton Ambassador, a 19th-century white-stone building decked with yellow-and-white striped awnings and surrounded by embassies. The tree-lined setting offers a private and secluded feel while still being close to all the major sights of the city.
The hotel keeps its historic charm by retaining the shape of the building and maintaining a classic yet contemporary style, with all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable stay.
Inside, the rooms are vibrantly decorated, with pure white linens offset by bold hues in the carpets, accent furniture and wallpaper, with either an English Tudor or Dutch Hindeloopen design. Either way, the effect is regal and understated despite the many patterns.
Sophia, the hotel restaurant, serves an international menu with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients. The hotel also makes its own beer, which you can enjoy in the lounge, or on the peaceful terrace, which offers outdoor dining in the warmer months.
We’ve chosen this hotel for its feel of seclusion and sophistication. The hotel’s original building and interior decor encompasses Dutch heritage.

Rooms
The rooms come in three categories: Classic, Royal and Residence. Boasting a classic Dutch or English Tudor style, they tend to be decorated in shades of Royal Delft blue or in red. The updated bathrooms have a vintage tiled style, with patterns expressive of the overall look of the room.
Royal rooms have views of either the surrounding park of Sophialaan or the elegant street, Zeestraat. The rooms have tall windows that admit a lot of natural light, and some have balconies.
The Residences are in the oldest part of the building, and feature original ceilings, tiled fireplaces, varnished wooden desks and plush blue velvet chairs.
All rooms have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
Location
Located a little outside of the old town of The Hague, the Carlton Ambassador is mixed in among residences and embassies and surrounded by grand mansions. It’s still within walking distance of many of The Hague’s sights. Mauritshuis and the Binnenhof are around 20 minutes' walk away, while the Escher in Het Paleis museum and the Haagsche Bluf district are around 15 minutes’ walk away. You can get to both the Peace Palace and the Noordeinde Palace within a ten-minute walk.
