Chris, Argentina and Chile Specialist

Chris grew up in Chicago and after graduating from University he aspired to see as much of the world as possible. His fascination with languages and the intricacies of other cultures inspired him to travel throughout North America and Europe. He spent years living throughout the U.S., Central America and Spain where he picked up the language and this sparked his desire to explore South America. Embarking on a career with Audley Travel enabled Chris to further develop his expertise in the landscapes and cultures of South America.

Chris recently returned from a journey across Argentina and Chile where he explored the driest desert in the world, San Pedro de Atacama, tasted the famous wines of the Casa Blanca Valley, and trekked across the enormous Perito Moreno glacier. When Chris is not working he is usually traveling, volunteering, bike riding, hiking, or cooking a homemade Italian dinner for his friends.

I'll never forget when…

Trekking across the Perito Moreno Glacier is one of my most memorable experiences. Of all my time travelling in Argentina this was an experience that I could not have anticipated. We started the excursion with a boat ride on Lago Argentino to the face of the glacier. As we came closer to the Perito Moreno it seemed to grow larger and larger, it is enormous. Watching the Perito Moreno is like watching an ice show. When the glacier cracks, it makes a sound similar to thunder and as the huge pieces of ice fall into the lake, they create large waves. You can hear the glacier cracking and everyone looks in anticipation to see the huge pieces of ice fall into the lake and make a large splash. Once we disembarked the boat we strapped on the crampons and went trekking. We were able to get up close and personal with the ice as we trekked across the mighty glacier. As we looked through the cracks and crevices we were able to see beautiful cobalt blue colors. At the end of the trek our guide put ice in a few glasses, ice from the glacier, and poured us a drink. It was a day I will never forget.
