On arrival, you’re met by a private driver and transported to your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring Edinburgh in a stylish Mini Cooper.

Your driver-guide will pick you up this morning for a day of exploring the castles and palaces in the environs of Edinburgh. Wander through the expansive Stirling Castle with your guide before visiting the maze-like ruins of the royal residence and military base of Linlithgow Palace. Finish the day with a visit to the historically significant manor of Hopetoun House.

Spend the morning exploring Edinburgh Castle by yourselves (entry tickets are included); if you’ve hired a kilt for the train journey, visit acclaimed kilt makers Kinloch Anderson to collect your kilt. In the afternoon, embark on the iconic Belmond Royal Scotsman.

Today the train will head northwest through the heart of the Highlands, passing wild and dramatic mountain scenery along the way. The train will continue through Achnasheen, then commence the climb to the Luib summit and Achnashellach Forest before descending to Strathcarron for an optional visit to Attadale Gardens. Alternatively, you can stay onboard and have the chance to disembark in the vibrantly-hued fishing town of Plockton.

Today, the train will retrace its steps back through the Highlands, giving you another chance to admire the rugged scenery. As you head south, stop for a whiskey tasting at one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland before continuing to Ballindalloch Castle. In the evening, enjoy tales and displays of traditional weaponry while on board the train.

Travel by coach to Rothiemurchus Estate, which is a beautiful expanse of Scots pine forest, lochs, mountains, rivers and glens, and known as the ‘gateway to the Cairngorms'. Either explore the estate with a guide or take part in a fishing or clay pigeon shooting excursion. Afterwards, return to the train and continue south to Glamis Castle.

After breakfast, the train will return to Edinburgh. In the afternoon meet a local food guide for a tour and tastings of the culinary delights of Edinburgh.

Today you will be driven to Edinburgh Airport for your journey home.
