This beautiful colonial building makes the perfect place to stay in the center of Fort Cochin. Near the harbor and within walking distance of the iconic fishing nets, it is well located for a stay in the town.
There is a lovely quiet garden with a swimming pool and the courtyard has a very relaxing feel to it, making this a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing. The rooms are larger than you would expect and each one is individually designed with chunky teak floors and dark wood furniture, all facing either the internal courtyard or the pool and gardens.
The rooms are all large with high ceilings and traditional décor. The interiors were designed by Karl Damschen and are an eclectic mix of dated furniture and varied art. Each room is named after a street in Fort Cochin and is individually decorated. Room categories include Superior, Garden View rooms, Garden Cottages and suites.
The Old Harbour Hotel is very centrally located, near the harbour and within five minutes walk of the Chinese fishing nets. It is also close to bars and restaurants as well as shops selling traditional Indian fabrics, jewelry, scarves and pashminas.
Our clients generally stay at the Old Harbour Hotel on a Bed and Breakfast rate. There is a multi-cuisine and seafood restaurant at the hotel and they serve beer and wine, but do not have a license for other alcoholic drinks. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and we particularly recommend the Malabar House, which is within a 10 minute walk of the property.
The large rooms, quite garden and beautiful pool make this a great place for children.
The hotel is a good choice for honeymooners and couples as it has a quiet romantic feel to it.
Guests can take part in complimentary yoga classes in the morning, and make use of the rooftop Ayurvedic spa. There are live classical music performances with dinner every night (except June and July) and free Wi-Fi in the communal areas.
This is our first choice in Fort Cochin. Although not the cheapest property, it offers fantastic value for money and is ideally located in the heart of the town.
