Itinerary idea in detail

Ask us if you would also like us to arrange your international flights at our preferred rates.

  • You will be met and driven to your hotel on arrival in Mexico City.

  • Mexico City has become a mecca for many foodies, and the routes of that fantastic cuisine are on the streets. Today you will embark on a street-food tour that will take you to the San Juan market (or similar), where you can sample a number of different dishes ranging from seafood tostadas to the chocolate-based mole, blue-corn tlacoyos (griddled corn patties stuffed with beans, cheese or fava beans) or fried chili grasshoppers. Your guide will explain the origins of these dishes and how they speak to the indigenous history of Mexico.

  • Today your guide will take you on a tour of Mexico City and Teotihuacán — a great introduction to the history of this part of the world. Use this evening to dine at one of Mexico City’s famous gourmet restaurants.

  • Today you’ll cycle through the trendy neighborhoods of Condesa, Roma and Polanco, passing through parks, Art Deco buildings, colorful markets and tortillas, sampling the best tacos the area has to offer. You’ll cover approximately 10 miles stopping at four typical taquerias.

  • Leaving the city you will transfer to the colonial town of Puebla, stopping for a tour of Cholula on the way. These old colonial towns are steeped in history and give a real insight into the country.

  • Leaving Puebla, your guide will drive you to Oaxaca, where you will have the rest of the afternoon at leisure. This evening you may want to sample one of Oaxaca’s many wonderful restaurants (we have a few favorites that we can highly recommend).

  • A gentle half-day tour to Monte Albán as part of a small group is followed by a street-food and mezcal-tasting walking tour, during which you’ll have the opportunity to try a selection of typical Oaxacan delicacies.

  • This morning, you will join a local Oaxacan chef for a visit to a nearby market where you'll go shopping together for ingredients before heading back to his cookery school to begin your lesson. Here you will learn to marry local ingredients together and create a number of select dishes frequented in the country's cuisine. The fresh spices used in Mexican cooking are renowned for bringing to life many dishes.

  • Leaving Oaxaca behind, you will fly to the Pacific coast today for some time on the beach.

  • A day at leisure to explore — there is plenty to see and do here besides relaxing on the beach so do ask us if you want to be busy!

  • A day at leisure. Why not try some of the delicious seafood available?

  • A final day to relax before you begin your journey home.

  • Transfer to the airport to begin your onward journey.
