River Birches Lodge offers luxury boutique accommodation in a peaceful setting in the small town of Turangi, which is situated on the southern edge of Lake Taupo. In this beautiful lodge, French doors open onto a large expansive deck and luscious garden area where guests can enjoy the wider views of the Tongariro riverside.

Each of the three guest rooms has a large en suite bathroom, access to the beautiful garden, and guests can enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapés here in the summer months. At the lodge, you can enjoy the spacious living areas and relax by the open fire after a long day of touring. The lodge is perfectly located for those who want to make the most of the walking opportunities in the Tongariro National Park.

River Birches' three guest rooms are each named after famous anglers of a bygone era and open to a private terrace and garden area. Each room is equipped with a super king-size bed with luxurious linens, individually controlled air conditioning, monogrammed bathrobes and a splendid en suite bathroom featuring separate shower, generously sized bath, under-floor heating, personalized toiletries, and bath salts.

In addition, you can stay in the three-bedroom cottage, which was designed for families and small groups as it provides privacy and flexibility. This self-contained cottage has a generous hamper of breakfast provisions for you to use in the well-equipped kitchen throughout your stay. The master bedroom is equipped with an en suite bathroom and has a king-size bed. Upstairs there are two rooms, a study, and one shared full bathroom.


River Birches Lodge is located in the epicenter Tongariro National Park within the small town of Turangi, which is known for its pristine alpine landscape. This property is ideally situated for people wanting to walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing or wanting to go fly-fishing.

Food and drink

Continental breakfast and a cooked gourmet breakfast are available daily for the three bed and breakfast rooms. In addition, you can pre-book a five-course, prix fixe menu which changes daily and utilizes organic, seasonal, and local fare. Dinners are individually plated and served lodge style at a communal table.

In addition, you can head to town to explore the local restaurants, bars, and cafes.


Families are welcome to stay in the Cottage on an exclusive use basis.
