Aiyana at Moraine Lake, Canada

Aiyana

Canada Specialist

Travel has always been a big part of my life; my parents took me on my first round-the-world trip when I was two.

As I’ve got older, my love for travel has only grown. In the last decade, I’ve lived and worked in the US, Australia, New Zealand, and most recently, Canada.

During my time in Canada, I explored as much of the country as possible while working as a travel writer. I ticked a lot off my bucket list, including a sunset over Moraine Lake in the Rockies, an Alaska cruise, bear watching on Vancouver Island, and Niagara Falls, to name a few.

Moving into the Canada specialist role at Audley felt like a natural next step, so I can continue to share my knowledge and travel tips with anyone ready to fall in love with this beautiful country.

Q&A with Aiyana

Guilin landscape

Where would you love to travel next?

Within Canada, I’d love to go to Churchill to see the polar bears. I also want to spend more time in the Yukon and Alaska — my 7-day cruise only scratched the surface. Outside of Canada, I’ve got China and Japan at the top of my bucket list.

Grizzly bear fishing in British Columbia

What’s your most vivid travel moment?

I’ll never forget the sheer amount of wildlife I saw on my bear watching tour. Despite going at the end of the salmon run, I was lucky to see hundreds of salmon, an eagle, a mother and baby whale, and so many bears. They were everywhere: climbing logs, splashing and diving for fish, and scratching on tree stumps. As the boat pulled back into Campbell River, I was treated to the most spectacular fiery sunset. It was a picture-perfect end to this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Poutine on the Walking Food Tour of Québec City

What’s the best local dish you’ve tasted?

Poutine. You just can’t go wrong with fries, cheese curds, and gravy, especially on a cold winter’s day. Also, make sure you try the maple syrup in Canada. It really is the best in the world.
