Lucy

Canada Specialist

My love of travel started at a young age. My first long-haul trip was to Canada when I was just six years old. I was fortunate to visit multiple destinations early in life, as my parents traveled frequently for work. I explored various parts of North America, as well as remote villages in Japan. To me, there’s nothing more special than traveling the world and immersing myself in different cultures.

Upon graduating from university, I spent time in Australia on a working vacation visa. After returning to the UK, I began working at Audley in the Global Travel Team. This was an incredible step toward becoming a specialist. I gained valuable knowledge across multiple destinations and developed a growing interest in the world’s second-largest country, Canada.

Since joining the Canada team at Audley, I’ve been on an extended research trip, traveling from Québec City to Victoria on Vancouver Island. I explored the country by taking comfortable trains across the eastern cities, going on road trips through the national parks, and even flying over the Rockies in a helicopter.

Q&A with Lucy

Afternoon tea, Lake Louise, Canada

What’s the best local dish you’ve tasted?

I’d have to combine my best dish with my best experience. During my recent visit to Lake Louise, I booked afternoon tea at the Fairmont. It was a lovely afternoon, enjoying delicious treats with a pot of tea and a glass of bubbles. The view of Lake Louise was stunning, as I admired the shimmering turquoise water away from the crowds.

Québec City, Canada

Your best piece of travel advice?

Don’t overpack. This is an important piece of advice I was given before going on my extended research trip. Canada is a vast country, which means you’re rarely in one place for long. You’ll be moving around frequently to see as much as possible. Days are spent exploring, while evenings are for some well-deserved relaxation. It also leaves you with extra space in your suitcase to bring back some maple syrup.

Grizzly bear in Jasper, Canada

What's your most vivid travel memory?

The wildlife in Canada is unforgettable. On my most recent visit, I took part in two wildlife tours, from whale watching in Victoria to spotting eagles, elk, and bears in Jasper. My most vivid moment was seeing my first bear. I was instantly fascinated by these incredible animals. A mother bear was out searching for food, while her cubs climbed the tree behind her.
