Family owned and operated since the 1800s, Kviknes Hotel is a grand, historic hotel conveniently located right on the shores of the Balestrand fjord, offering an excellent base for exploring the fjords. In the main building, the Victorian decor reflects the hotel’s heritage, with gold chandeliers and gilt frames, crown molding and antique furniture. The modern wing, where most of the 190 rooms are located, provides contemporary conveniences and style.

There are several different dining options, including a casual daytime café, a formal dining restaurant, and Balholm Bar, a bistro with a wide-ranging menu. The hotel can also arrange a wide array of activities to help you explore the region, from guided hikes and snowshoeing trips to maritime adventures on the fjord.

Rooms

The 190 rooms and demi-suites are divided between the historic and modern wings, with a wide range of options. Rooms in the historic wing feature a Victorian esthetic with antique furniture, lace curtains, patterned wallpaper and fjord views. Most also have a balcony. The contemporary wing has rooms with a simple, modern style, featuring lots of earth tones like brown, cream and sage, as well as touches of light blue. The large windows overlook Saint Olav’s Church and the villages. Larger rooms on higher floors also have balconies.

Location

Situated on the north shore of Sognefjord, the hotel is an excellent base for exploring the fjords. A four-hour drive from Bergen, the hotel overlooks the fjord and mountains and is in the heart of the village of Balestrand, which has an attractive wooden-stave church.
