Azor Hotel

Azor Hotel

Located at the end of the Ponta Delgada marina just outside the heart of the city, Azor Hotel boasts excellent views over the water, where on a clear day a keen eye just might be able to spot a whale or dolphin. About a five-minute walk from the marina and a 15-minute walk from central Ponta Delgada, the hotel enjoys a quiet location that is still accessible to the sights and sounds of the city.

The hotel’s 123 rooms are decorated simply, with fresh white linens and wood-paneled floors and walls, all boasting sea views. En suite bathrooms are adorned in sleek, dark tiling, offering slippers, robes and a large walk-in shower.

Breakfast is served buffet-style each morning in the À Terra restaurant until 11am, offering a mix of hot and cold items, including local Azorean products. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, using a menu that incorporates primarily local dishes such as aged beef, artisan cheese and fresh seafood. Guests can also enjoy the lobby bar, serving local ice cream, cheese and wine, or the top-floor Whale Watching Bar, offering light fare and drinks throughout the evening. The Whale Watching Bar also features a DJ from 7-10pm Wednesday through Saturday.

Though it’s on the outskirts of central Ponta Delgada, it’s still very walkable to some of the city’s highlights. It’s just under a ten-minute walk to the Mercado da Graça and about 15 minutes to the Portas da Cidade.

Food and drink

The hotel’s signature restaurant, À Terra, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from a menu including typical Azorean fare like fresh cheese and grilled limpets, as well as classic dishes like pizza from their wood-fire oven. You can also enjoy a light snack or a signature cocktail in the rooftop bar, offering excellent marina views where you just might spot a whale if you’re lucky. In the lobby you’ll find a comfy bar area where you can enjoy wine, cheese and local ice cream.

Facilities and activities

The hotel’s spa features a sauna, Turkish bath and aromatic shower, as well as treatment rooms for a number of different therapies. The hotel also offers a range of free daily activities, such as mixology, guided runs, and even voice lessons from a staff member who was once a contestant on Portugal’s edition of ‘The Voice’.
