Haena Beach House

Haena Beach House

This quirky, retro-styled house takes full advantage of its spot on the beach and has been built in a wedge shape so that views are to be had from everywhere and the power of the Pacific Ocean can be felt and heard.

Each of the five bedrooms has an ocean view and a private bathroom making it a good choice for groups of friends as well as families. If there were to be any argument over room choice, it would be for the two suites that come with lounge areas. The interiors pay tribute to the retro exterior, blending vintage furniture with bright tropical prints.

You can gather for morning coffee on the lanai outside the dining room or meet up for a cool afternoon drink in the covered lanai where you'll also find comfortable sofas to lounge on with a good book. The open-air upstairs lanai is the place to enjoy the Hawaiian sun.

Rooms

All rooms are airy and spacious, although the taller members of the group may want to avoid the top-level rooms which slope down along the roof-line. Some rooms have showers and others bathtubs, giving flexibility for families. Linens are provided, as is an ironing board and iron. The bathrooms are well-lit, with good mirrors and hair-dryers so you can freshen up after a day on the beach.

Location

The coast road is a winding, two-lane affair crowded by tropical foliage on one side and the ocean on the other. Haena Beach House sits just before a bend in the road, where the beach curls round to a small inlet. Just a short walk by road, or slightly longer by beach, you can find a small resort with a choice of restaurants, while a short drive brings you to Hanalei, known for its laidback food truck scene and a sprinkling of smarter options.

Food and drink

The spacious kitchen is well-stocked; you'll find all the utensils needed to cook a full range of meals as well as a microwave, a large oven and refrigerator and plenty of kitchen tops for preparation. There is also a toaster and kettle. There is a barbecue so you can all be together out on the decks while cooking. Hanalei has a range of supermarkets to get supplies from, and the farmers' market every Saturday morning often has exotic fruit and vegetables to try.

Families

A comprehensive range of sleeping options for children of all ages can be arranged. Please discuss your specific requirements with your specialist.

Facilities and activities

The house sits right on a golden, sandy beach with direct access to the ocean. Please be aware that the ocean is not patrolled and the surf can be powerful. Should you wish to return home with a suitcase full of clean laundry, there is a washer and a dryer available for use.

Local excursions

Kauai's activities make use of the vertiginous landscape and surrounding ocean. We can arrange many experiences on a private basis and you can choose from helicopter flights over the scenery used as a backdrop for the film Jurassic Park, sailing and snorkeling trips to the offshore reefs and hikes through the dramatic countryside.

Our opinion

With lots of quirky charm, this house has enough space for a special family reunion or getaway with your best friends. The absolute beachfront position will draw everyone outside to make great memories with a beautiful backdrop.
