Luangwa River Camp

South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Luangwa River Camp

Located on the banks of the Luangwa River under an ancient ebony tree lies the Luangwa River Camp. This exclusive lodge, part of the Robin Pope Safaris portfolio, consists of just five suites stylishly furnished with huge beds and sunken stone baths looking out onto the Luangwa River. The lodge itself is elevated on wooden decks affording great views to the park and river and has a swimming pool sunk into the deck on two levels with a waterfall. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery and view the passing wildlife. The lodge has a resident chef who prepares delicious meals for the guests. Lunches are usually eaten with other guests while dinners are served privately for each couple or group of guests as required.

The small size of the lodge means there is a lot of flexibility as regards game viewing activities. Guests can enjoy game drives and walking safaris ranging from half day excursions to full day activities with a bush lunch to allow access into different areas of the national park. The park is accessed by crossing the Luangwa River either by boat when the waters are high or by 4x4 in the drier season. For those craving some pampering, relaxing massage treatments are available in your room or on your private deck.

If you are interested in responsible tourism, it is possible to arrange a visit to one of the projects that Project Luangwa, which Robin Pope Safaris work closely with, as part of your safari. These include schools which have been built, tree planting, and a new library. This needs to be pre-arranged and requires a donation toward the project, and is a wonderfully enriching experience.
