Umaid Bhawan
Umaid Bhawan, Jodhpur, India
Built in the early years of the twentieth century and designed, surprisingly, by the British Institute of Architects, this fantastic palace set in enormous grounds is a landmark for miles around.
It was originally conceived as a job creation project for the impoverished Rajasthani subjects of the maharajah. The ex-Maharajah is in residence.
