The drive to Kumbhalgarh Fort is spectacular, winding through idyllic rural scenes where women dressed in colorful saris work the wheat fields or plow and draw water with oxen.
About the fort
The sprawling fort stands 1,100 meters up in the Aravalli Hills with 36 kilometers of walls encompassing 365 temples, palaces, gardens and 700 cannon bunkers. Built in the 15th century, the fort was only taken once by the Mughal Emperor Akbar who was himself forced to abandon it two days later.
We recommend you visit as a day trip from Udaipur, Narlai or Jojawar.
