A friendly place on one of the liveliest streets in Kinsale, Blue Haven Hotel is a small, stylish option. Little touches like cookies on arrival and upbeat live music nights create a warm welcome and a sense of local community. With bars, restaurants and the pretty waterfront nearby there’s plenty to do both inside and outside the hotel.

A nautical theme carries through the property with bright wallpaper and shades of blue. The lobby has comfortable sofas and a slate fireplace, while the open fireplace in the bistro creates an inviting atmosphere. Blue Haven Hotel also offers three options for dining — a bar and bistro, a seafood café and a tapas bar serving Irish-Spanish fusion food.

OUR OPINION:

A stylish and friendly hotel, this makes a convenient base although you may hear a bit of noise in the evenings in some of the rooms due to its central location.

Rooms

The decor in the 17 simple but elegant rooms follows the nautical theme of the rest of the hotel. Blue and white stripes or bright wallpapers line the walls and antique furniture brings character and charm. Though relatively small, the rooms are light and cheerful, and offer complimentary Wi-Fi and en suite bathrooms with a shower over the bath.

Location

The hotel sits at the corner of Pearse Street and The Glen, right in the heart of Kinsale. Nearby are plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants and the historic Desmond Castle, all of which are within easy walking distance.

Food and drink

The Blue Haven Hotel has multiple options for dining. The Blue Haven Restaurant & Bar serves standard Irish fare with fresh local ingredients and boasts an exciting gin and cocktail menu. The Seafood Cafe offers fresh seafood with a twist, as well as an extensive oyster bar. For something a bit different there’s Aperitif, a tapas bar serving Irish-Spanish fusion food.

The hotel hosts different live music acts every night with traditional Irish music sessions on Sundays.
