Xanatseni, which translates to “place of the mopane tree” in the local language, is a tranquil, small private camp set beside a seasonal river bed in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. The lodge has open borders to the wider Kruger National Park, providing easy access. The five thatched cottages offer spacious, contemporary rooms all with river views and shady patios. The modern bathrooms are equipped with both baths and showers. For families or groups, there’s a private house, with two bedrooms that sleep up to four guests. The house has a separate living room, kitchen, private veranda, boma area and its own private guide and vehicle.
You’re likely to spend much of your time in the huge communal areas, which offer comfortable corners where you can sit, a large pool, a boma area for evening campfires, honesty bar and a deck on an elevated platform over a waterhole. Between game viewing activities, you can spend time in the small gym or relax with a massage treatment.

We like this owner-run camp for its attention to detail and quality of service and guiding. We’re also impressed with the small touches here, such as sundowner stops on a viewing platform in the bush.

Rooms
Offering both twin and family room options, the five rooms come with modern fittings, comfortable bedding and en suite bathrooms.
In addition, the indulgent Tseni suite is a two-bedroom house that overlooks the open area in front of Xanatseni Private Camp. It’s equipped with a kitchen, lounge, dining room, and TV with satellite channels and a private boma. The bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with a shower and bath, as well as air conditioning and ceiling fan.
All meals can be served within the suite.

Xanatensi sits within the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. Covering an impressive 60,000 hectares of pristine wilderness, the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is part of the Greater Kruger National Park and one of the largest privately owned reserves in South Africa.
