After graduating with a degree in History, Jack took over a year out, to combine travel and work all over Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. After returning to the UK, Jack interspersed working in recruitment and sales and marketing with numerous extended visits to Indochina and Thailand. His enthusiasm for the region led him to Audley to share his passion, knowledge and experience of Southeast Asia with our clients. Since joining Audley he has re-visited Indochina, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore and added Borneo, and Myanmar to his portfolio following numerous extensive research trips.

In 2015, Jack moved to our US office in Boston. In recognition of his expertise, Travel + Leisure has honored Jack with a place on its A-List of the top travel advisors for the last four years running. Jack has also added the USA, in particular the South and New England, to his area of expertise, following numerous domestic trips in the last five years.

I did a tour in Vietnam in 1969, serving as an infantryman with the 9th Infantry Division in the Mekong Delta. Over the years I had thought often of going back. I think I felt it would be good for me to see the country and the people without the effect of a war going on. This past winter my wife and I traveled to Thailand and took an extra week to go back to Vietnam. I had done some research about returning veterans and found Audley Travel on the internet. Jack was our country specialist and after several email and phone conversations he designed an itinerary just for us. I was very pleased with our experience. Our personal guides and driver made every effort to make our stay enjoyable and stress free. Vietnamese people are very welcoming and I found no animosity toward Americans. The country has changed so much since my first trip. I enjoyed our trip very much and I was happy that my wife could accompany me this time.

Lankayan Island is a great destination and your typical 'Robinson Crusoe' island situated about one and a half hours of the coast of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea.

Due to its close proximity to Turtle Island you are likely to see many turtles when you are snorkeling or diving on the house reef and the resort also has a small hatchery where you can see hatchlings being released into the sea.

This small idyllic island is a great place to spend a few days relaxing before continuing your wildlife experience.

I'll never forget when…

Bako National Park covers 2,742 hectares of a rugged sandstone peninsula to the east of the Bako River near Kuching, the capital of Sarawak. Millions of years of erosion have created an impressive and breathtaking coastline of steep cliffs, rocky headlands and stretches of white, sandy bays. Wave erosion at the base of the cliffs has carved many of the rocks into fantastically shaped sea arches and seastacks.

The coastline is also dotted by a sandstone cliff vegetation characteristic of Bako. Other major vegetation types include the mangrove forest, mixed dipterocarp forest, peat swamp forest, kerangas (heath) forest, and kerangas scrub on the plateau; it's possible to see just about every type of vegetation found on Borneo at Bako National Park.

Well worth a visit even to experience the novel way to enter the park — from the sea.
