The Boxer

Boston, The US

Located between the historic North End and cobblestone streets of Beacon Hill, The Boxer exudes a sophisticated urban charm with details that spotlight the city’s industrial past. The hotel is set in the distinctive 1904 Flatiron Building, centrally located just steps away from the historic North End and a few blocks from downtown, Quincy Market and the Freedom Trial.

There are 80 rooms, all furnished with an iHome, Keurig coffee maker, and flat-screen television. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour gym in the basement, as well as complimentary access to a local sports club.

The Bulfinch Social brasserie boasts a menu of hearty American classics and serves breakfast, dinner and cocktails. The drinks menu includes a selection of craft beers and a large collection of whiskey.

Rooms

The Boxer’s serene slate-blue rooms and industrial-chic esthetic provide a calm retreat from the city’s bustle. The riveted-steel furnishings are softened with touches like a fisherman’s knit bed scarf. Each room is unique — some have hand-painted urban-inspired murals or sharply curved walls thanks to the building’s unusual shape. Bathrooms are well appointed and feature marble countertops.

Junior Suites offer sun-drenched views of the city, and the One Boxer Bunk rooms offer a fun bunk-bed option, which families can reserve with an adjoining suite.

The standard rooms are snug — a good option if you’re just using the hotel as a base to shower and sleep as you explore the city. We suggest upgrading to a corner room for something more spacious.

Location

The Boxer is on the edge of the Bulfinch Triangle, just steps away from the narrow lanes of the historic North End, and a few blocks from Quincy Market, downtown and the city’s Freedom Trail. It’s also close to the subway, known locally as the T.

Food and drink

Breakfast, light bites and dinner are served at the Bulfinch Social. With exposed brick walls and vintage-inspired wingback chairs, it’s a comfortable, stylish place to start or end your day in the city. The menu features hearty American classics, as well as a good selection of craft beers, whiskeys and cocktails.

Families

The One Boxer Bunk rooms have a full bed on the bottom with a twin bed on top — a fun option for children. It can be combined with an adjoining Traditional King room to create a family suite.

Facilities and activities

There is a small, 24-hour gym in the basement, but guests also have complimentary access to a local fitness club.

The Boxer provides a fleet of bicycles for guests to use to explore Boston. Bright red, they have sturdy wheels for navigating the city’s sometimes uneven streets, and a big basket. The hotel also supplies a lock and helmet. For those driving, there is valet parking.
