Between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, on the banks of the Mississippi River, lies Oak Alley Plantation, in its day called 'the Grande Dame of the Great River Road'.
This classic Greek-Revival antebellum home enjoys a picturesque setting at the end of a striking avenue of 300-year-old giant live oak trees, and has acted as a film location for several movies and TV shows, including Interview with a Vampire, Primary Colors and Midnight Bayou.
You'll stay in one of the century-old plantation cottages, which enjoy a tranquil setting close to the main mansion, or Big House. Each cottage has a living room and private bathroom, as well as air-conditioning, a microwave, coffee maker and fridge. Some also feature cable TV and Wi-Fi. Breakfast is included each morning at the Oak Alley Restaurant, and while the restaurant is closed in the evening, a pre-prepared dinner can be ordered in advance to eat in your cottage.
Oak Alley is one of the most-photographed and filmed plantations in the South, and we find its oak-lined entrance is an impressive greeting when you arrive. Offering a one-off place to stay, the plantation's cottages are atmospheric and peaceful — we recommend the deluxe cottages, which have a fresher, more modern feel.

Rooms
You can choose between the property's century-old cottages or newer deluxe cottages, all of which are uncluttered and secluded, overlooking the grounds. They each come fully equipped with air-conditioning, a coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, basic utensils and memory-foam mattresses. The majority have cable TV and electric fireplaces. While the older cottages are more rustic, they're equally comfortable and secure.
Location
Set in a rural area of Louisiana along the banks of the Mississippi, Oak Alley Plantation has a peaceful location about an hour’s drive from New Orleans. The closest restaurants are half an hour away, so we recommend dining in one before you arrive or ordering a pre-prepared meal the day before your arrival, which you can enjoy in the privacy of your cottage.
Food and drink
You can enjoy breakfast in the plantation's restaurant, which is open for breakfast and lunch. In the evening, you can either dine in one of the restaurants en route to the plantation or pre-order a meal the day before your arrival, which will be ready for you to enjoy in your room.
Facilities and activities
Daily guided tours of the main house describe the families that once lived here. You can also take a self-guided tour of the old slave quarters and the property's extensive grounds.
