Tierra del Fuego
Tierra del Fuego conjures up images of frothing waves, howling gales and isolation, and whilst this is not entirely the case, the area certainly has a windy end-of-the-world feel. The heart of the island is the lively city of Ushuaia, whose colorful houses spill down from the sides of imposing snowy mountains before stopping abruptly at the shores of the icy Beagle Channel.
Exploring the Region
Ushuaia is the base for exploring attractions such as Lapataia National Park, the ‘Train to the End of the World’ in Tierra del Fuego National Park, seabird-watching on the Beagle Channel, and also a visit to the historic Estancia Harberton which was built by a British missionary on one of the farthest outposts of the continent.
Ushuaia is also the starting point for trips to Antarctica and the Cruceros Australis boats.
